Climbing is Not For Wimps

Climbing the mountain is never easy. That is why it's called climbing. Truth be told, I'm one of those sissy girls. I enjoy walking, even speed-walking (I'm a fast walker anyway), but tell me to jog or do a strenuous climb up a hill and I might go straight into an asthma attack!

That is why years ago when I was considering buying a 5 speed automobile, my sister commented that if I couldn’t operate my car and got stuck in traffic, I’d probably just abandon it. Maybe that was true once upon a time, because I wasn’t much of a fighter, but rather an expert quitter.

You see we moved so much growing up (13 schools in as many cities), that I learned to just move on when things got tough. Then God took control of the reigns with His amazing technique for growing resilience and fortitude in the most unsuspecting subjects.

Now when a mountain presents itself, I am pretty darn determined. In fact, if we were on a hike I would probably be the first to get to the top of the hill, because of my tenacity. Mind you, sometimes I might be heading up the wrong hill or fighting an obsolete fight, but darn it, there I’ll be puffing away on that mountain. Now my husband, Mr. Steady and Well-Researched will be right there when I get back down to point me in the right direction. The steady part is why I married him. When you’re as fast to act as I often am you need a little moderation.

The point is, many of us are facing important mountains, some which lead to our destinies, but it’s going to take a continuous effort to make it up the hill. We won’t get there if we abandon our mission. We need to remind each other to keep on keeping on in the climb. It will be worth it when the mountain is under our feet and we are looking out over the expanse prepared for the next horizon we have to master.
